Summary - day #2

Evženie Votinská, 14.08. 2022 Aktuality

After two playing days of the Euro U18 we have two teams with two wins in both groups. This time the weather was favorable for baseball, so all scheduled games could be played.

Israel and Germany had two games to play. In the morning game, Israel took a 6:3 lead after three innings, with a solo home run by Tomer Naor. But Germany immediately countered, forcing Israel to pitch and thanks to good hitting, took the lead 8:6 and also won 12:7 with the help of a three-run home run by Joshua Harrison.

Israel fixed their appetite in their next encounter with Belgium, in which they went for the win from the start. Aviv Borov pitched an excellent game, throwing 6 innings and recording 5 strikeouts.

There were some surprises in the game between Lithuania and Spain. The Lithuanian players took on the favorite with great vigor and scored two runs in the first inning. They hit better, had more hits in the game, and led by a point at the halfway point. Spain was helped by the 5th inning when they managed to turn the game in their favour. But the Lithuanians didn't give up, they loaded the bases in the last inning and scored a run, but their next effort was stopped by two strikeouts. Spain won their second victory of the tournament (7:5).

The Netherlands had an excellent start to the game against France. Starting pitcher Brandon Herbold allowed only 1 hit to the French batters in five innings. It was his teammates who had more success and took a 6:1 lead during the game. France briefly made the game slightly dramatic with three runs in the top of the 6th inning, but the Dutch scored two more runs to win 8-4 and have two wins in the tournament.

The German players also won twice. After winning against Israel, they also beat Ireland 3:1, although they probably expected an easier game.

The draw of the day between Italy and the Czech Republic ended with the home team winning 9:3. The Czechs only needed three hits or three home runs to take a 7:0 lead. Nicholas O'Rourke, Viktor Hluchý and for the second time in the tournament Matouš Bubeník hit for the fence.

The evening game at Hluboká between Great Britain and Austria was exciting and evenly matched. In this duel the spectators saw home runs, one on each side. The score was changing from one side to the other and in the end the British team was able to win 7:5. Austria had the bases loaded with one out in the last inning, but didn't take their chance to even the score.
