Spain and the Czechia celebrated their fourth victory on the fourth day of the tournament, while Lithuania, Austria and Ireland are still without a win. There were two dramatic games, one of which had to be decided by a set inning.
Italy's match against Germany was full of emotions and twists and turns. In case of a win, Germany would be assured of advancing to the semi-finals. The beginning of the match was better for Italy, but in the 4th game Germany took advantage of the inaccuracies of the pitchers and fielding errors and turned the game in their favour. But the opponent countered, tied the game in the next game and in the 6th inning Filippo Venditti hit a two-run shot with the bases fully loaded. Germany only reduced the score to 6:7 in the last game.
Austria fought for their first win of the tournament against France, but lost 7:10. The match lasted more than three hours, giving France its third victory and a chance to reach the semi-finals.
Belgium celebrates its first victory at the Euro. Thanks to 12 points in the 5th inning, they beat Ireland 16-1. Robbe De Boey threw a complete game, Ayoubi Fatihi hit a three-run homer.
Lithuania scored 4 runs in the third inning, tied the game with Great Britain at 4-4 and hoped for a successful game. But Britain responded strongly, hitting 17 hits in total, and eventually won by a 14-4 margin.
Meanwhile, the still-sovereign Czechia awaited Israel in the evening match and started the game in style, leading 3-0 midway through the second inning. However, the Czech team showed its offensive qualities. To the free throws, they added good hits and during the game two more home runs hit by Viktor Hluchý and Michal Zelenka. Czechia won 13:3.
It was only the set inning that decided the winner of the evening duel at Hluboká between the Netherlands and Spain. The game had a great atmosphere, with fans of both teams supporting their players very loudly. The Dutch pitchers Oduber and Van der Schaaf gave a great performance, giving away 12 strikeouts and not giving up a free base in six innings. In the third inning of the game the score was 2-2, which did not change until the end of the game. In the tie-break, Spain scored two runs, thanks to an error by the Dutch defense on a fly out, and even then one of the Spanish players was thrown out at home plate. The defending champions managed to get only one player home in the extra inning, but the right hit didn't come and Spain won 4-3.
Wednesday is a free day for the tournament, with all teams moving to Brno for the last group matches and the final placement game. The group standings and the names of the semi-finalists are still not clear. Spain, the Netherlands and France are in Group A. The Czech Republic, Italy and Germany are in Group B. The clash between Spain and France and the evening duel between the Czech Republic and Germany are certainly the best invitation to the games at the YD Baseball Arena (formerly MBS)
